Casey Cares Provides Comfort Bags to Newly Diagnosed Patients
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
Thanks in part to a grant from The Rouben & Violet Jiji Foundation, we have been able to purchase canvass tote bags that will be given out by social workers at local hospitals to newly diagnosed patients.
The feedback from social workers and hospital staff has revealed a need for a receptacle for patients to store information they receive upon hospital registration. When patients are first admitted into the hospital, after being diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, they are bombarded with information. Pamphlets about drugs and their side effects, directories of the hospital, glossaries filled with medical jargon, brochures explaining their child's diagnosis, family support groups, financial assistance applications, and so forth. Several social workers have requested tote bags for patients to store this information.
We are so excited to be able to fill this need! We will be putting an application for our programs as well as other items like playing cards, puzzle books, reusable water bottles and journals in the bags for the families. We would like to also be able to include some medical items like thermometers, hand sanitizer, etc.
That is where you come in!
We need your help securing items to be put in the bags! Items such as:
Reusable water bottles
