WJZ’s sports anchor Mark Viviano has been a HUGE part of the Casey Cares 5k for years.  He’s run the race and served as our emcee for several years because he believes so deeply in the work we do. “I participate in the Casey Cares 5K to support the awesome work of Casey Cares!  My wife Megan and I are blessed with two wonderful and healthy young sons and the perspective of being parents gives us a heightened awareness and appreciation for the needs of children- especially those who are fighting illness and the impact it can have on their families.” says Mark.

To me, the best part of running is the feeling of being truly alive. While competitive racing can sometimes be stressful and intense, a relaxing training run or leisurely jog can be calming in both body and mind.  Our bodies are amazing machines, capable of beautifully efficient motion and endurance.  I embrace the feeling of vitality while running and with it comes a peaceful appreciation of good health.”

Mark has been a runner since high school, when he was a varsity basketball player.  “Our team would run the cross-country course during off-season training. While I first dreaded the 3 mile run, I came to embrace it.  The training gave me added fitness on the basketball court. It wasn't until after college that I really pursued running as regular exercise.  That was more than 30 years ago and I've run 35 marathons since.”
